It's a Small Internet After All

I was just looking over some of my photos from the Renewal show, and I remembered this close-up of Mallory Jarrell's piece:

When I first saw the piece at the show, I was like... no way. I KNOW that caterpillar. Or its identical twin:

See him in the bottom corner, with the tie? That's from my collage at the same show. Ever since I started doing collages with images from Google image searches, I've noticed other people using 'my' images. That caterpillar is like the 3rd picture you see if you Google 'caterpillar.' Which means he's probably been featured in a ton of other artworks - but maybe Renewal was the first show he was featured in two separate works at the same show.

It's a small internet.

  1. Hi Chris! I thought of you today when I saw a huge painting inside a restaurant. I definitely wished I could immediately transport u on scene to totally explain and give me lots of insight about it. Wow, that collage you made is by far my favorite piece I've seen of yours so far!! If it weren't for the glasses on the cocoon I wouldn't have guessed you made it because of the colors. You are very versatile! This is really beautiful; I love it so much!! Thanks for posting!

P.S. I am proud of that little caterpillar who made it in the show twice!(, even though he came up third place in Google.) The tie you gave him makes him extra happy I'm sure!!
